Dem Roots Music
dem roots music was established in 2016 as an acoustic project and toured with Robert Kuhn 2017-2019. In 2020, founder, Louis Morales, connected with local Houston musicians to form the current group which include ex-members of The Suffers Pat Kelly - drums, Kevin Bernier - guitar, Third Coast Roots Liam Haney - bass, Allyson Lopez - saxophone, and Selphillips Taveras - percussion. As 2021 began to normalize in Texas, they traveled to Austin, TX to record their debut album, Forward Ever, via Splice Records and toured the east coast in support of the release. Since "Forward Ever", dem has performed alongside Stephen Marley, Lee Scratch Perry, Clinton Fearon, and Dread Mar I to name a few, and have been showcased at festivals such as SXSW(2023), La Izquierda Surf and Music Fest, River Revival, Houston Reggae Fest, Austin Reggae Fest, and Dallas Reggae Fest. On February 6th 2024, dem roots music released their follow up album, Pa' Que Esperar Al Tiempo, independently, as dedication to the groups latin roots. Blending Latin overtones, with a neo-soul touch encapsulated and served as reggae roots. “Pa’ Que Esperar Al Tiempo” allowed dem to connect and collaborate with Devin The Dude and Lil Flip, 4020, recording at the legendary Sugarhill Studios in Houston, TX.
