Barrington Levy is one of Jamaica’s most distinctive and influential voices, a reggae and dancehall pioneer whose extraordinary vocal range, unmistakable delivery, and timeless catalogue have made him an enduring force in Jamaican music. Known worldwide as “The Mellow Canary,” Levy began his recording career as a teenager in the late 1970s and quickly emerged as one of the defining voices of Jamaica’s early dancehall era. His groundbreaking work with producer Henry “Junjo” Lawes and the legendary Roots Radics produced a remarkable catalogue of classics, including Shine Eye Gal, Collie Weed, Englishman, Skylarking, Under Mi Sensi, Here I Come, Murderer, Black Roses, Too Experienced, and Mary Long Tongue. Levy’s powerful combination of soulful melody, distinctive phrasing, and dancehall energy helped establish a vocal style that influenced generations of reggae and dancehall artists.
