Seth Haapu
Seth Haapu is one of New Zealand’s most prolific songwriters, penning tracks for others in recent years - notably co-writing recent hits for Sons of Zion and collaborating with renowned artists such as Stan Walker and Parris Goebel. He has also written and produced extensively for film and television with a growing catalogue that exceeds 10 million streams on Spotify alone. In the midst of music for others, Seth has released an EP each year from 2016-18, with a song from each making top 20 for New Zealand's prestigious Silver Scroll Awards. Last year’s single ‘New Wave’ saw him receive the Kaitito Waiata - Supreme Composer Award at the Waiata Māori Music Awards. He’s shared the bill with Crowded House and supported John Legend. He played WOMAD New Zealand and Chile in 2018 and took part in the Finest of Aotearoa tours in Hawaii, Las Vegas and his ancestral home of Tahiti. Now, Seth is bringing his liquid velvet voice to the fore once again with a new sound of Pacific RnB. A sound that is fresh and exotic, utilising digital production and pacific instruments made from wood and sharkskin. His latest release, ‘Cool Down’ is an eco-charged anthem featuring Stan Walker. The song draws inspiration from Seth’s Polynesian heritage and calls attention to the effects of global warming on the Pacific islands. This is Seth Haapu, the brilliant Māori and Tahitian musician who is making Pacific RnB his own.
