SALVADOR SOBRAL is a Portuguese singer and songwriter.
After spending some time in the United States and 4 years in Barcelona studying jazz at the prestigious Taller de Músics school, he returned to Portugal at the end of 2014 to embrace the challenge of a solo album.
During the time he lived in the United States and in Barcelona, Salvador Sobral developed several music projects: wrote songs for himself, and his debut album showcases this songwriter side of him. At the same time, he created bold performances around Chet Baker, true travels through bossa nova or even through the sweet sounds of Latin America.
In Portugal, Salvador Sobral began collaborating with some of the country’s biggest names in jazz. From this collaboration, his first album was born: Excuse Me (2016).
One year after the release of “Excuse Me”, Salvador Sobral is invited by her sister Luísa Sobral to sing at the Portugal Song Festival. “Amar Pelos Dois”, the song that won him the Eurovision Song Contest 2017 with the best score ever in the competition is, today, one of the most popular songs in the world.
Following his triumphant victory in Kiev, Salvador Sobral became one of the most sought-after musicians by both Portuguese and international audiences. He received several awards and distinctions from many different institutions, namely:
- EBBA Award 2017
- Jornal Expresso: Personality of the Year 2017 (awarded by Portuguese newspaper Expresso)
- International Personality of the Year 2017 by the Foreign Press Association in Portugal
- 5-Star Personality 2018
- Medal of the Great Order of Merit by the Portuguese Republic 2018
- Golden Globe 2018 for Best Song for “Amar pelos Dois”
- Aritmar 2018 Award to Best Portuguese Song
- Videolip3 2018 Award for the song “Cerca del Mar”
- Ambassador of the Portuguese Language 2019 Award by the Institut du Monde Lusophone in Paris
After a health issue that kept him away from concerts for many months, Salvador Sobral returned to the stage at the Eurovision Song Contest 2018 Final in Lisbon, next to his idol, Caetano Veloso.
Unanimously acclaimed around the world by both general and specialised press, 2018 saw Salvador Sobral go on an intense tour with more than 30 sold out concerts in Portugal, Spain, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania.
2019 will bring Salvador Sobral’s new album – “Paris, Lisboa”; he will also be going on several tours across the entire globe, stretching from East to West.
