Antony Szmierek

"If Pulp had one foot in the rave, you'd be near Szmierek's signature shtick: expressive, vivid storytelling… over floaty electro-pop and house beats" - Rolling Stone UK "Fundamentally British yet beautifully universal" - DIY "Covering everything from chance encounters to Tesco meal deals, Szmierek finds beauty in the mundane" - London Standard "tales of love, hope and ambition told paired with lightly psychedelic guitar riffs and UK garage kick patterns" - NME "Literate and worldly wise, he also packs a punch - there's romance, there, but also grit" - Clash Antony Szmierek continues to captivate audiences with his thoughtful lyricism across rap, spoken word, and dance music. House, techno, electro and disco run right through his new album Decoding Birdsong, with the beats giving his storytelling a new sense of movement and energy. His critically acclaimed debut, Service Station at the End of the Universe, launched him into a whirlwind of Glastonbury, repeat BBC airplay and a Jools Holland appearance, and sold-out shows across the UK and Europe. The former English teacher worked at a college for special needs students when his blend of spoken word and dance music started taking off, earning him BBC 6 Music's Artist of the Year award in 2023 following his Poems To Dance To EP. Szmierek says the ultimate mission of his music is to let others know that this is all possible.
