Joanna Borrett
Joanna Borrett is a composer and cellist. She is a house composer at Kevin Mayhew and several of her pieces are included in the ABRSM and Trinity College exam syllabuses. Joanna’s first string orchestra work – Clan – was recorded by Her Ensemble in 2024. The recording was chosen as Album of the Weekend by Scala Radio, Video of the Day by Gramophone and the third movement has been played on Radio 3’s programmes Earlier and Classical Unwind. Clan has also been played by the Duchess of Edinburgh’s String Orchestra at the royal investitures at Holyrood Palace. The recording of Joanna’s song cycle – Moments of Freedom – came out in September 2025 and this year Signum Classics is promoting three of Joanna’s most recent string orchestra pieces, all of which have been recorded by Her Ensemble. The first of these – Then – is being released on April 28th.
