I say WAKE EM UP, COS A-LOT OF US SLEEP ON OURSELVES.
My name is Daniel Okobi, popularly known as Kobi Jonz. Kobi comes from my last name and Jonz, which I spelled a little different, is the feeling I want my music to have on its listeners. I was born in Lagos, Nigeria and grew up traveling between Port-Harcourt and Lagos because of my dad’s job. I came to the US about 6 years ago searching for a chance to make sense of my music, lived in Houston for half that time and met solid people. I love Houston but now I’m in Los Angeles, at the hub of entertainment to make good on my childhood dreams and promises.
I grew up in a Christian household and my dad is a preacher till this day. My mum was a nurse and she took care of us and still does. Growing up I listened to a lot of gospel music as expected but when I had the opportunity to choose I always found myself watching the latest dancehall hits and hip hop videos on tv.
I call my sound AFRO PLUS cos it envelopes all my experiences from home and abroad. You can say fusion, I say plus. Let’s chat about it.
His music brings out in his listeners a vigor, that can be described as hope, love & self-motivation. This fresh perspective is Kobi’s way to spread the word that self-sufficiency in pursuit of one's dreams is possible.
