Concentus Musicus Vienna The Search for the "Original Sound" For over 60 years, the Concentus Musicus Vienna was the home and nucleus of the musical creativity of its founder, Nikolaus Harnoncourt. The intensity that characterized the ensemble and the profound, immediately vibrant interpretation of the musical masterpieces were always based essentially on Harnoncourt's demand that each individual musician actively participate and personally understand why this particular moment was "this way and not otherwise." The ensemble—thus not merely performing, but also musical partners captivated by the spirit of the work—inevitably developed its specific musical language, which makes it so distinctive. Nikolaus Harnoncourt's credo and fundamentally vibrant driving force, as well as the legacy anchored in each individual from the decades they spent together, make it impossible to imagine a cessation even after his death. Continuing to ignite the spark he has thrown at him, continually updating it, and igniting it for new perspectives to be opened up—this is the Concentus Musicus's current mission. The musicians' familial bond has always been an important foundation. In this spirit, the Concentus Musicus has renewed itself from within: emerging from its own ranks, Stefan Gottfried will shape and develop the future as artistic director together with Erich Höbarth and Andrea Bischof.
