Taves
Taves is a fearless force in Afropop, forging a lane entirely his own. With hypnotic flows, ethereal melodies, and genre-blurring experimentation, the Ibadan native creates music that feels instinctual, transcendent, and emotionally raw. Since breaking out online with his viral song covers and rising up the ranks of Nigeria’s music scene, he’s moved fluidly through Afrobeats, trap-infused R&B, and avant-garde synth-pop—all while staying rooted in his truth as a visionary artist. As 2025 unfolds, Taves stands at the forefront of a generation redefining genre, identity, and sound. “Now, when people hear the name ‘Taves,’ I like that they don’t know what to expect from me or what I ‘should’ sound like,” he says. After years of hard work and persistence, Taves is revving the engine on a thrilling new chapter with a daring new release: W2Y, a bold two-pack single produced by Arieenati, arriving in mid-August. Built on his instinct to challenge norms and express truth without compromise, the project captures his creative evolution in full force. Delectably experimental, “Way2Yung” is a succinct prelude to Taves’ forthcoming album, the aptly-titled POPSTAR. “I know who I am now. It’s instinctual, I’m just doing whatever I want.” POPSTAR is set to cement Taves as more than an artist of the moment—he’s the voice of what’s next. Taves isn’t just part of the next wave—he is the wave. And he’s only just getting started.
