Roberto Zanetti (Savage) was born in Massa, on November 28, 1956. After an early career as a keyboard player in several bands, including one featuring Zucchero, he decided to focus on writing and producing English dance tracks, following the Italodisco trend that was booming at the time. In 1983, he released his first single, Don’t Cry Tonight, which became an immediate hit and brought him to major Italian TV shows. The following year, with Only You and the album Tonight, he established himself as one of the most iconic voices of the genre. By the mid-1980s, he chose to concentrate on his career as a producer and songwriter, with hits like Please Don’t Go by Double You, Easy, Think About the Way and It’s a Rainy Day by Ice Mc, all of Alexia’s English-language hits, wwwmipiacitu by Gazosa, and Zucchero’s hits like Baila Morena, Ahum, and Bacco Perbacco. He was also publisher and label owner of Corona’s worldwide smash hit The Rhythm of the Night. In 2019, he began recording a new album of original songs, released in January 2020. However, the Covid-19 pandemic put a halt to both its promotion and his live activity. In the following years, only a few projects were released, including two songs written for Zucchero (Un’altra storia and Facile), a remix of Only You by Gigi D’Agostino, and the compilation Greatest. In early 2025, Savage returned to the studio to work on a new album, inspired by the electronic sounds of his beginnings and the dark melodies that made him famous.
