Riff

Riff, aka Ahmad Refaat, is an electronic music producer and musician from El Khanka neighbourhood, Qalyubia, Egypt. While emerging into the industrial, isolated daily life of the Khanka, Riff sought to establish a musical astral plane combining heavy chaabi tones with the overwhelming warmness of his LO-FI self. Riff developed a new relationship with the bass and percussions, breaking the rules of syncopation, harmony and adding playful swingy beats to reach his version of futuristic - alternative chaabi music. As for creating melodies, he transforms every day’s noise of humans, gadgets, and nature into a symphony of tones, weaving in and out of their standard influences. Riff recently released “Love in the time of antidepressants” an electronic indie and chaabi mixtape that sways in his mood between nostalgia, sunflowers and melancholia.
