Marie Jose Van der Kolk, better known by her stage name Loona and from the Dutch town of IJmuiden, Netherlands. She rose to prominence in 1996 alongside DJ Sammy with the release of the singles "Life is Just a Game" and "You Are My Angel." Loona's breakthrough came in 1998 with the summer hit "Bailando," followed by another chart-topper, "Hijo de la Luna." Both singles achieved significant commercial success, and her 1999 single "Mamboleo" was Echo-awarded as "Best Dance Single."
In 2001, Loona released "Viva El Amor," which became a number 1 hit in Spain. She continued her success with tracks like "Sunlight" in 2002 and "Boys of Summer" in 2003. After taking a baby break in 2005, she returned in 2008 as a judge on "Popstars" and with the single "Parappapa."
Her 2010 hit "Vamos a la Playa" garnered over 150 million views on YouTube, achieving Gold and Platinum Awards globally. Her album "Stars," released in October 2020, revisited some of her greatest hits.
In 2022, Van der Kolk triumphed on the German show "Kampf der Reality Stars," which prompted the release of a new version of "Life is Just a Game." Celebrating a quarter-century in the music industry in 2023, she released several singles, including "Dreams (are my reality)" and collaborated with Jerome & DJ Sammy for a viral remake of "Bailando." Additionally, her remake "VAMOS" with FiNCH was a huge success.
