Jay Chou Chieh-lun is a Taiwanese singer-songwriter, actor, director, and businessman. Regarded as one of the most influential artists in the Chinese-speaking world, he is often referred to as the "King of Mandopop". Chou's works, which often blend Eastern and Western styles, has been recognized for its impact on musical trends in the Greater China region.
In 2000, Chou released his debut studio album Jay to runaway success, solidified by his second album Fantasy, which sold over 460,000 copies in Taiwan. His subsequent albums, including Yeh Hui-Mei and November's Chopin went on to sell over three million copies across Asia, while Common Jasmine Orange is the best-selling physical album in China in the 21st century, having sold over 2.6 million copies. In 2009, CNN named Chou one of the 25 most influential people in Asia, the only Taiwanese figure to be included.
Chou is the most-awarded singer at the Golden Melody Awards, with 15 accolades, and his music videos are among the most-viewed on YouTube, with six surpassing 100 million views, the most for any Chinese artist. He served as a judge on The Voice of China for four seasons from 2016 to 2020.
