On her third album with Oh Boy Records — and fifth overall — Emily Scott Robinson reaffirms her status as a gifted performer and storyteller. Appalachia, due in 2026, was recorded at Dreamland Recording Studios with Grammy-nominated producer Josh Kaufman and explores themes of resilience, love, grief, and hope. Robinson’s clear, expressive voice and lyrical depth have earned her widespread acclaim. Her earlier albums Traveling Mercies (2019) and American Siren (2021) appeared on Rolling Stone’s and Stereogum’s year-end best-of lists. NPR ranked her song “Let ’Em Burn” among the “100 Best Songs of 2021,” while The Time for Flowers — a pandemic-era anthem of hope — drew the attention of Oh Boy Records, the label founded by her hero John Prine. Now a seasoned touring artist, Robinson continues to grow her reach at home and abroad. She calls Appalachia her best work yet, with songs about her grandmother’s dementia, a colorful cash-only saloon, and the bittersweet beauty of life. The album includes a duet with Grammy winner John Paul White on a song about love marked by time and scars, and closes with a hymn for anyone who’s ever fallen short.
