Jon Onabowu

London-based drummer, composer, and bandleader Jon Onabowu is emerging as a distinctive voice within the UK's contemporary jazz landscape. Prior to releasing his own compositions, he was best known for founding the Cosmic Fusion residency at Ronnie Scott's Jazz Club; a platform built around rhythm-led, improvisational music in an intense live setting. Guest artists have included Donald Hayes (Stevie Wonder, James Brown, Greg Spero (Halsey), and Sullivan Fortner (Roy Hargrove). His debut album "Now's The Time" comes after years performing alongside internationally acclaimed artists, including with Venna and Theo Croker across North Sea Jazz Festival, Montreux Jazz Festival, Cross The Tracks, Love Supreme, and Recessland. As drummer for The Balimaya Project, he contributed to a London Fashion Week collaboration with Labrum, Adidas, and Abbey Road Studios. As a bandleader, he headlined the EFG London Jazz Festival in 2022. "Now's The Time" weaves UK jazz, hip-hop, and jazz-drill into a rhythm-led, forward-looking sound; bringing together collaborators including David Mrakpor (Blue Lab Beats), Anatole Muster, and INSXGHT. Through his own projects, Jon continues to develop a voice that is both deeply rooted and distinctly his own.
