Nate Raubenheimer, known globally as Protoculture, is one of South Africa’s most significant electronic music exports. With a career spanning over two decades, Nate has successfully navigated the complex landscape of the music industry, transitioning from a pioneer of the underground Psytrance scene to a global heavyweight in Trance and Progressive House. His journey began with the critical success of his early albums Refractions and Circadians, which established him as a festival staple at major international events like Glastonbury and Fuji Rock. A stylistic shift in 2010 bridged the gap to the broader EDM world, catching the attention of the likes of Armin van Buuren, saying, "Everything he touches turns to musical gold." This endorsement launched Protoculture onto the mainstages of A State of Trance (ASOT) and Ultra Music Festival, with chart-topping releases on Armada Music and Re*Brand. Beyond the stage, Nate is a revered "producer's producer." He is a prolific sound designer for industry titans like u-He, Brainworx, and UVI, and a dedicated educator serving as a Certified Bitwig Trainer and Sonic Academy tutor. Through his imprint, Marula Music, he releases high-quality sample packs and production tutorials, sharing his technical mastery with the next generation. Whether crafting cinematic trance, revisiting his psychedelic roots as Shadow Chronicles, or teaching the art of sound design, Nate Raubenheimer remains a driving creative force in electronic music.
