MAZIYA
Born in the 90s in the East of Johannesburg, South Africa, MAZIYA is an emerging producer whose sound reflects the evolution of African electronic music. The creative journey begins early through school plays and choir, where rhythm, melody, and performance take shape. At the age of 10, exposure to the Fresh House Flava 4 compilation becomes a defining moment, opening up a deeper connection to music and setting the foundation for what follows.
MAZIYA develops a wide musical outlook, drawing inspiration across genres, cultures, and eras. This openness is evident in the production style, which merges global dancefloor energy with a strong African identity. Influenced by Afro Tech, Afro House, Amapiano, Afrobeat, and 3 Step, the sound remains rooted in South African rhythm while carrying a universal appeal.
In the first quarter of 2025, MAZIYA signs with Universal Music Group, marking a key step into the global music space. The debut single, eSamenteni, featuring Moonchild Sanelly, Oscar Mbo, and Odyssey, introduces a clear artistic direction and sets the tone for the journey ahead.
The release leads into a forthcoming EP expected later in the year, expanding on the same foundations of intention, culture, and sound. For MAZIYA, music is about heritage, storytelling, and cultural export. With eSamenteni as the starting point and a global platform in place, MAZIYA represents a new chapter in South African electronic music, focused, authentic, and built for longevity.
