Kevin Smith
Kevin Smith is a man on a mission with his music. Born on February 8, in the parish of Portland, Kevin submitted his life to the Lord in 1995 and has not walked away from this commitment. Growing up, he was always interested in becoming a secular dancehall musician. Although, Kevin had always felt called to music, it was not until 2008 that he took a career as a singer seriously. He had been focused on his work and was going to let his desires go, but deep down he knew he had to do it. After becoming a Christian, Kevin would do some dancehall tunes at church. Later, he began to chant his songs, which is a mixture of singing and dancehall deejaying. This became a signature style as he recorded his earlier songs such as Back Weh. When he wanted to make straight dancehall rhythms, he was discouraged by many in the Jamaican Christian music industry as they could not see him as this type of singer. Nonetheless, he took the risk as he felt a strong call by God to adapt this genre. Consequently, this risk has paid off as he has made an indelible impact on many lives through his music.
