Raul Midón
Raul Midón established as a first-call session singer upon graduation from U of Miami (1991). In 1999 he joined Shakira's band. At the same time he signed w/Warner Chappel. He left Shakira’s band, moved to NYC & within a year appeared at Carnegie Hall for the Movie Music of Spike Lee. Spike asked him to write a song for “She Hate Me.” Raul was signed by producer Arif Mardin to Manhattan Records. He & Joe Mardin produced & released 2 albums, “State of Mind” & “A World Within A World.” Raul made his tv debut on David Letterman, then Leno, Ferguson, & Jimmy Kimmel. In England, Later w/Jools Holland & in France, One Shot Not w/Manu Katche. Raul worked w/Bill Withers, Herbie Hancock, Sting, Terence Blanchard, & Dianne Reeves etc.. He's received 2 Grammy nominations back-to-back in 2017 & 2018 for “Bad Ass and Blind” & “If You Really Want” (Best Jazz Vocal). He recorded all vocals for those records in his studio. In 2019 he gave commencement remarks at his high school Alma Mater Santa Fe Prep & got the Distinguished Alumnus Award from U. of Miami. In 2021 The Mirror was nominated for Best Jazz Album - A2IM Libera Awards. In 2021 he was named Disability Rights Ambassador, presented to him by Jason Mraz. Raul appears in a duet on the Grammy winning “Mendo” by Alex Cuba (2022). He pursued a dream of recording guitar duets ww/favorite guitarists Mike Stern, Dean Parks, Lionel Loueke to name a few. ‘Eclectic Adventurist’ is to be released on 11/11/ 2022 on ReKondite Records.
