Born Alexander Adelabu, Magixx first started making music in his early teenage years. “Ever since I was a child, I already knew what I wanted to do, I never for once, thought about doing something else,” The singer-songwriter told 1883 Magazine in a 2022 interview. His early influences came from the music his father often played growing up-Michael Jackson, DMX, Fela Kuti and others. Proactive about his foreseen future in music, Magixx joined the church choir at nine and learned to play a number of instruments. By the age of 13, he was going to the studio to record music.
Magixx’s self-fulfilling prophecy was realized through the release of his song “Problem”, which caught the attention of certain players within the Nigerian music scene-including Mavin boss and renowned producer Don Jazzy. He was officially signed to Mavin in 2021, the start of a promising music career. Since then he has released two EPs, self titled and “Atom”, both praised for their adept intermingling of multiple genres.
Magixx has been recognized for his protean approach to Afro-fusion and his distinct vocal quality, bagging two Headies nominations for “Rookie of The Year” and “Best Vocal Performance (Male)”. In 2022 He was nominated for “Most Promising Artist” at the AFRIMA awards.
With the release of his long-awaited debut album “I Dream in Color”, 2025 promises to be a pivotal year for the Afropop singer.
